Travel In and around La Marina

I am sure residents & holiday makers alike would really appreciate a bus that served the urbanization. It would be especially useful if it went to the shopping area where the Mercadona etc are. Possible there might even be one, but trying to find out what buses run & when is a mind field for most. Even having an idea where on the urb a bus stops is difficult enough. Proper bus stops with displayed timetables & routes should be within any council's budget.

La Marina

As I was out walking this morning near the Grey area I spied a Bus Stop and noticed that there was a timetable on a very very high pole so I went over to investigate the time table. It made no real sense to me and I have lived here for many years now.
Could the council not work with the bus companies and arrange for better details so we can all understand it. No matter which nationality we are. I would have thought the obvious would be a simplified map that even showed the direction to the beach and the shopping areas .

I feel sorry for Tourists if this so far is the best we can offer and do.

Can anyone please tell me if the bus that was announced in the local papers a while back, still runs to Torrevieja Hospital?
If so where does one catch it from?
Anyone know the timetable please and the cost?
Plus where does it run from to get back?
Wish it was easier to find out these type of things.

Commented Douglas in La Marina 2011-06-23 14:26:51 UTC

Douglas,I do not know if this bus is still running, but it used to stop outside the Medical Centre opposite Supa Valu.I believe it went straight to Torreviehe Hospital about Three times a day.If you pop into the Tourist office next to the Medical Centre they would give you all the Info you require and if it is still running they are bound to have the times, sorry I cannot be anymore helpful, but as no one else has answered your call it may be better than nothing

Commented Alan in La Marina 2011-06-25 12:41:37 UTC

Douglas, I have no doubt whatsoever that any information at all which you require concerning buses, their routes, costs etc are available at the Information bureau next to the doctors surgery.

ZOO

Hi

Does anyone know if the Rio safari park at Elche is still open?

Quesada

I hope not, went once it was the most depressing place I have ever been to, should have been closed down years ago and the animals all put in to care.

Commented Daves Homes in Rojales 2011-06-22 12:46:30 UTC

Yes its open.. I went 3 years ago and found it to be very run down .. Terra Natura would be my 1st choice .. However if you do opt for elche .. mcdonalds do saving vouchers x

Commented Kchri39472 in Quesada 2011-06-22 16:18:24 UTC

We went there earlier in the year and certainly it isn't of Woburn or Longleat standard; and it was expensive to get in. But I thought the animals were well cared for in general, though the parrots were very scruffy and that can be a sign of stress. If you go, I'd advise taking a picnic as the food is quite expensive and fairly average! Ask for discounts if you're pensioners.

Its not all about animal welfare

What is wrong with everyone? Yes we have a new government and councillors and yes we still have the same problems as before. First off whether the ambulance is on the road or off the road it is none of our business apart from K9 and the town hall or, the animal charities that are involved in rescuing animals. Theres other big issues on the urb that need dealing with like improving the lighting on the streets, helping local businesses and bars and more. The animal welfare is just a part of an on going saga and it isn't going to change anytime soon. Change is always welcomed but it has to be introduced in stages. Alan i understand what your saying, mags i understand what your saying Andrew i understand what your saying. now all understand what im saying we voted for a change so that's what's going on in every department in the town hall so lets not all make a song and dance about it when it starts taking effect like it has been. because remember. WE ALL VOTED FOR A CHANGE

La Marina

To answer your question here is the full title for SAT. "Sociedad Protectora para Animales de Torrevieja"
Pardon me for answering your question, I thought that was what you were supposed to do on this website, I will try not to make such a silly mistake again! And let's remember there are many other charities that need help......not just animal charities!

Commented Julie in La Marina 2011-06-21 17:36:50 UTC

I agree with you Eve - you keep up the good work what you are doing !!

Commented Carol in La Marina 2011-06-21 21:41:06 UTC

Thanks for your support Carol, I am knitting some soft toys for the Fete, so if anyone has any scraps of double knitting wool they don't want, I would be grateful.

Commented Caroline in La Marina 2011-06-22 05:12:56 UTC

Never mind Eve, I don't take lightly to sarcasm either that's why stated that SAT is under Torrevieja, not La Marina. Lets just agree that the TWO animal charities that RESCUE animals in this local area ( in and near La Marina) do great work!

Commented Julie in La Marina 2011-06-22 12:58:15 UTC

Have I missed the point, but are you telling me that because we have a new council we have to accept gratefully everything they give or as it is at the moment everything they take away.I have learned a few things in my life, one of them being, dont lay down and let people walk all over you

Commented Alan in La Marina 2011-06-22 13:13:44 UTC

If everyone stopped and thought about how much we pay in Suma ever September and how much we would all be paying in England then I don't think anyone has anything to complain about I know that my pension goes further here, even with the lower exchange rate. There were problems in England and we can keep on moaning about them, at least we have the weather here to help us along.

Commented Caroline in La Marina 2011-06-22 17:11:23 UTC

Hi Claire, Just to say that everything you have mentioned in your post is on our agenda for improvements. and more. But as you say everything takes time. poco a poco. The new office for the Urbs. is proceeding to schedule and should be open the end of next week or beginning of the following week. I look forward to the opportunity of meeting many of the residents face to face.

Commented Jeff Wiszniewski in La Marina 2011-06-23 08:14:50 UTC

Mr. Wiszniewski, you state that everything takes time, poco a poco. With regard to the rescuing and welfare of abandoned and stray animals I believe that the Ayuntamiento already has a contract with K9 for them to rescue and care for abandoned dogs and cats, and that you had a meeting last Friday with K9 committee members in the Town Hall. I believe that you reassured them that they will be using the animal ambulance again within a week – your words in a previous post 5 days ago “as agreed with K9, it will continue to be used as such in the municipality”. Why then is it taking so long to return the animal ambulance to the K9 volunteers. It has not been moved from the police station in almost a week and no sign of it being taken to for an ITV test! I have also heard that the local police have been given instructions not to contact K9 animal rescue volunteers since you were installed into office, indeed for the first time in years the K9 volunteers have not received any calls from the local police about a stray animal! Can you please reply and advise why the council is dragging it’s feet on this issue, there are dogs and cats out there now that need to be rescued, and what the council has done with all the dogs and cats that have been found in the last ten days, for sure there has been some!

Commented Julie in La Marina 2011-06-23 13:53:35 UTC

Claire this is hopefully my last comment on this issue,Firstly I think you will find Mark Lewis was elected back, unfortunately for him Jeff Wiszniewski could easily have put him in a position of power, but chose to give that power to the members of a different party only time will tell if he made the right choice. As for me I have no particular love of animals, but a great fondness of human beings,so yes i want the council to do more for people before they start giving money for animals. But what we have seen as yet from the statements jeff has made,It is obvious,it is not a case of what we can spend money on,but more of what can we stop giving money to.He has already told me in his letters, that bars can be shut down at any time if someone complains about noise(so much for your wanting more help for bars to stay in existance)now chances are the animal ambulance will cease to exist.More importantly is what do they stop next, perhaps the La Marina peoples Ambulance?,cut back on local police?I dont know if they will or if they can,but until I see this Council do something positive for the people of la marina,I will shout loud and clear,If i think dodgy dealing is at work

Commented Alan in La Marina 2011-06-23 15:27:21 UTC

How can you not see Claire that this is the topic al lot of people want answered, Alan is right, if  Jeff Wiszniewski  and his fellow councillors can get rid of the animal ambulance after being in power after only a week then what other cut backs are going to be made. There are going to be more subjects brought up in the future to address to the councillors but at the moment this one needs resolving.
Lastly you really need to get your facts right, the expats DIDN'T vote for change, the Spanish did, in fact most of the expats voted for APSFU which is the party Mark Lewis is in, PP and PIPN got the least amount of votes from the expats!

Commented Julie in La Marina 2011-06-23 16:12:06 UTC

And can you recall the reason AIM broke the coalition agreement after 4 months, because PP were paying out thousands for body guards and chauffeurs, we could say they are as bad now, the wages for the new British councillor and his 2 friends the town hall are paying out approx 6,700€ a month. You might be happy to see this issue swept under the rug but the majority of the people want to know how long we are going to have stray animals running round our streets, end of story!

Commented Julie in La Marina 2011-06-23 18:25:44 UTC

Blimey, I look like a nutter who talks to herself, shame Claire removed her comments, I was enjoying that debate.

Commented Julie in La Marina 2011-06-23 19:34:55 UTC

I think it is unfair to place any faith in Jeff Wiesznievski. The PP are using him as an office boy and throw him a crumb or two just to get his vote in the council chamber! Quite simply the man is in the way, is he not?
